About A Monsoon Diary

South Asia, including India and Bangladesh, is a fascinating place and often very misunderstood by the world beyond. As a foreigner there, this has presented interesting challenges and a daunting learning experience which I would like to share.

These posts are journals, letters, current writing and photos that have been kept during my ongoing time living in India since 2002. Additional information is graciously being supplied by Dr. Diane, one of my principal letter writing pals and oldest friends. She has been living and working in Bangladesh for a number of years. For more on the main author please see the About page on A Bazaar of Dreams blog.

Due to the political situations in both India and Bangladesh some names have been changed. The events are factual. But some details, personal information and other data have been altered to protect reputations, innocent people and both Dr. Diane and myself.

A Monsoon Diary is not fiction but neither is it hard journalism. Some events are being reconstructed from minimal notes and memory and there is a lot of opinion interspersed in with the journal so please don’t take it as any kind of authority. Both Dr. Diane and I try to maintain clarity and common sense but not at the expense of the human side of the intense experience of being foreign in South Asia.

Comments are available with each posting.
